It’s just Muslim Speak

You meet another Muslim person, it could be your friend, family member, an acquaintance or even a total stranger.  How do you converse  with him or her?  What’s your lingo?  Same as it is with with everyone else you meet or do you tailor your speech to the individual?

It’s nice to hear a jovial “Hi” from someone but isn’t it better for that person to say Peace be upon you?   To wish you Peace?

“Hi” is a nice word but it really has no meaning other than acknowledging your presence. Hey you! I can say that to my cat or my neighbour’s dog!

If every person you meet respectfully wished you a Peaceful day, every single dayhow Peaceful would your life be?

If you in turn wished them a Peaceful day, how wonderful and Peaceful would all our lives be?

Similarly if you are “fine” that’s great but it’s not of your own doing, it is by the grace of Allah that you are fine. If HE willed, you would not be fine! If HE wanted, you would not get out of bed in the morning. So give thanks and show gratitude for your health.

It is recommended that Muslims address each other in an Islamic way and use Islamic words.

Did you say “Hi?”

Did the other person say “Hi” back?

Say Assalamu Alaikum

Or reply by saying Wa Alaikum Sallaam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh

Did you say “I am fine?”

Say Allhamdulillah

Did you say “ok  I will”?

Say In sha Allah I will (remember it’s spell in three parts and not as one word and sorry I can’t remember why).

Did you say “wow” when you saw  or heard something you liked?

Say SubhanAllah

Did you say “thanks?”

Say Jazakallahu Khair
